Today on Feminine Roadmap we are talking with Dr. Harley Rotbart about building healthy relationships with our adult children.
Making the transition from parenting young children to teens to then adults requires creating guidelines and boundaries. Often the challenge for us as parents is how to remain a part of their lives without being invasive and over-involved. Once the next season of grandparenting comes, we are then faced with how to navigate our role in a way that is supportive and not parental.
Building healthy relationships with our adult children is a journey that begins when they are young and continues to evolve as they grow. Dr. Harley encourages listeners to be intentional in how we relate to our adult children, by communicating clearly then respecting their decisions and guidelines especially once they become parents themselves.
As grandparents we may feel that “we know best” but just because we mean well doesn’t mean we do well. If we focus on how to build healthy relationships with our adult children, trusting and supporting them, we can potentially minimize regrets.
